Tell Congress You Want to See More Investments in Organic Agriculture!

You can help invest in organic agriculture and its capacity to protect our health, our environment, and our planet by asking your members of Congress in the U.S. House and Senate to support the Organic Science and Research Investment (OSRI) Act and the Opportunities in Organic (OIO) Act of 2023.

In just a few minutes you can place a call and/or send an email to your members of Congress.

The OSRI Act would expand funding for agencies and universities conducting research that helps organic and transitioning farmers thrive. For every dollar invested into agriculture research, $20 returns to the economy!

The OIO Act would reduce barriers to organic certification, help producers meet organic supply chain needs, and make technical assistance more accessible. It would connect producers with the resources they need to stay viable and resilient—while protecting the long-term health of our food and farming system.

Organic agriculture has been historically underfunded, compared with other parts of agriculture. These two bills provide an opportunity to change that!

“Investing in organic research is good public policy. It’s really hard for any one farmer to do their own research trials. Having resources that can support academic institutions like The Ohio State University to do organic research is critical to improving organic systems as a whole. I’ve been farming organic for 25 years and I am always looking for well researched ideas to improve my farm and my business.”

Charlie Eselgroth, a Ross County, Ohio organic dairy farmer and supporter of the Organic Science and Research Investment Act

“Organic production has huge benefits for our rural economies and our environment—but farmers can’t make the switch to organic practices without help. My Opportunities in Organic bill will give these folks the support they need to make the transition to organic and thrive while they do so. That’s a win for our farmers and for our communities.”

Senator Peter Welch (D-VT) – Sponsor of the Opportunities in Organic Act of 2023
