LFPA Script

Thanks for taking action for the Local Food Purchase Assistance (LFPA) Program! Simply copy and paste the below message and submit it as a comment to Senator Vance’s office.

Better yet—let the Senator know why LFPA is valuable for you and your community, and why you want to see permanent funding so that it continues beyond April 2025. Personalize the script for added impact.

Here’s what to say/personalize:

The Local Food Purchase Assistance Program (LFPA) has invested hundreds of million dollars into local food supply chains and hunger relief programs. Across the country, state and tribal governments partnered with thousands of producers, food distributors, and food access organizations to provide families with fresh, local food. In our state, more than 23 million dollars were invested into 191 producers through the Ohio CAN program, with 59% of them being producers who have been historically underserved by federal programs.

However, despite widespread support for the program and a recent investment from the USDA, the LFPA remains at risk of disappearing. The next farm bill must include a permanent authorization of LFPA to avoid a gap in funding that would disrupt families’ livelihoods, farming operations, and access to fresh foods. As farm bill negotiations continue, will you represent your constituents by taking action to secure funding for this essential program?
