Ohio Soil Health Week
Save the date for the first annual Ohio Soil Health Week, November 10-16!
Ohio Soil Health Week will officially recognize Ohio’s most valuable natural resource: soil! Although healthy soil is essential for our farmers, economy, climate, and communities, there’s little being done to promote and strengthen efforts to protect this natural resource. Ohio Soil Health Week will change that.
OEFFA and the Ohio Soil Health Initiative (OSHI) are working to designate a weeklong celebration of soil health with outreach and education to raise awareness of the importance of healthy soils. Ohio Soil Health Week will be held during the second full week of November, with the Wednesday of that week designated “Ohio Soil Health Day.” This timing honors the late David Brandt, a sustainable agriculture champion and the “godfather of soil health,” whose birthday is that week.
The Legislation
We expect Ohio Senator Tim Schaffer to introduce the OSHI/OEFFA-backed Ohio Soil Health Week amendment to H.B. 162 (legislation that would make day and week designations related to agriculture) on March 26.
