You’re Invited to Advocate for Healthy Soil

Globally, around one-third of soils are degraded. By the middle of the century, 90 percent or more could become degraded. In the Midwest alone, more than 57.6 billion metric tons of topsoil have been lost over the past 160 years.
At the same time, healthy soil has been increasingly shown to hold more water, reduce runoff and protect water quality, require less fertilizer, and sequester carbon. Thriving soil results in healthier crops, providing a positive return on investment for farmers and ranchers. Isn’t all of this worth protecting?
2025 Soil Health Advocacy Day
If you care about this valuable and essential natural resource, we invite you to make your voices heard! On Thursday, June 12 at 10 a.m., OEFFA members* are invited to join us at the Ohio Statehouse for a Soil Health Advocacy Day. We’ll kick off the morning with a training, providing you with tips for how to have effective meetings with policymakers. You’ll see demonstrations of different meeting scenarios, and learn more about potential soil health policies for Ohio.
Then, we’ll spend the afternoon meeting with our Ohio legislators and advocating for policies that support soil health! Following the event, advocates are invited to mingle with one another at an optional happy hour at Jackie O’s On Forth.
A light breakfast and complimentary lunch will be offered. Travel stipends are available for farmers. Spots are limited. Register here by Friday, May 23.
*Who Can Join?
No advocacy experience is required to join this event. We welcome any farmers, researchers, educators, and community members. However, to help us formulate and strengthen member-driven priorities, we ask that you be an OEFFA member. While we offer student and need-based memberships at discounted rates, our team recognizes that finances may still be a barrier to participation. If OEFFA membership is out of reach for you, we still want you to engage and encourage you to reach out to us at policy@oeffa.org.
We hope to see you at the Statehouse!
